The Edmonton Oilers have been surrounded by turmoil this season. A team that is supposed to be contending for a championship has fired its head coach and is floundering. Today an NHL insider provided a couple of major updates on the team.
Insider Predicts The Future Of Oilers General Manager
Since the firing of Jay Woodcroft many fans and media have neen wondering if general manager Ken Holland is on the hot seat. NHL insider Darren Dreger was able to provide a major inside look into that very question.
Dreger on Holland: «He's in an expiring year in his contract, he's not coming back as GM in Edmonton»
With Holland reportedly on his last days in Edmonton it calls into question what moves he will make. According to Dreger one major move will likely wait until the next general manager's tenure.
Oilers Not Likely To Move Campbell Amongst Uncertainty
With the organizational uncertainty hanging over the Oilers Darren Dreger indicates they will not move Jack Campbell. Moving him would require attaching a high-level asset such as a first-round pick or top prospect. According to Dreger, Holland does not want to put the new front office in a bad situation.
Dreger went on to say in order to unload Campbell's contract (deal has to be money in/money out for it to work for Edmonton) he would have to add a 1st RD pick or Xavier Bourgault, he does not want to leave the new incoming GM in a bad situation.
With Holland being considered a lame-duck general manager on his way out do not expect big moves from the Oilers. They will likely consider this a lost season and stay mostly quiet. Any impending free agents could be the only trade targets for other teams.
If the Oilers make a drastic turnaround things could always change but it sounds as though Ken Holland's time in Edmonton is coming to a close.
