The Edmonton Oilers are set to extend Leon Draisaitl, and now one Oilers reporter has revealed the potential timeline for a massive deal.

Led by the star duo of Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers continue improving in recent years, and now, after falling one step short in 2024, they are expected to push hard for their first Stanley Cup as a duo in 2025. To do this, it's expected that they will lock up superstar forward Leon Draisaitl to a huge extension this summer, and now we've learned more about the situation through Tyler Yaremchuk of the OilersNation podcast.
"I think that also, you know, probably shows there's a pretty high level of trust between the two sides. Like if there was concern from the Oilers' side, that Draisaitl was gonna, you know, back out or change his mind or something was gonna go wrong, then," he said.

"Yeah, maybe they would be under some pressure to, kay, on the heels of getting that close to a Stanley Cup. Just get it done as fast as you can. But I think these two sides probably know they're going to find common ground at some point," Yaremchuk continued.

Yaremchuk cites the trust and support between the two parties as a reason for confidence levels being high, and given the success the two sides have enjoyed together over the past decade, it certainly makes sense. With Connor McDavid wanting to get locked up to a long-term deal next year, keeping his partner in crime around certainly makes sense, with Yaremchuk all but predicting a deal will be done before the season begins.
"Like to me, this is going to get done before the beginning of the season, and there's really no reason to rush and no reason for fans to be concerned that this thing isn't done yet," Yaremchuk added.
If this happens, Oilers fans should be absolutely ecstatic, especially with McDavid's impending 2026 free agency, and if it happens, the immediate future of the Western Conference seemingly runs through Edmonton.
