It's been a rollercoaster ride into the NHL for Ivan Fedotov.

In May 2022, the Philadelphia Flyers had a deal all set up for Fedotov to join them in the NHL. But then, plot twist his KHL team, CSKA Moscow, made him stick around for mandatory military service.
Fedotov and CSKA Moscow aren't getting off scot-free. Nope, they're facing some severe consequences for their actions.
The IIHF levied sanctions against goaltender Ivan Fedotov, CSKA Moscow, & Russian Federation today.

Fedotov is suspended from playing in any international competition for 3 years.

The IIHF has ruled playing in the KHL this season violated his NHL contract with the Flyers.
First, Fedotov is getting slapped with a three-season ban from playing for Russia in IIHF-sanctioned events. With Russia currently banned from IIHF events, it might not sting as much.
And then there's the Russian Hockey Federation, who's getting hit with a $1 million Swiss fine for their role in the debacle.
The IIHF Disciplinary Committee decided that #LetsGoFlyers Ivan Fedotov's performance for CSKA Moscow last season was in violation of the IIHF international transfer rules.

Russian Hockey Federation fined 1 million Swiss francs (approximately 100.5 million rubles ~1.08M USD)
However, Fedotov's finally made his way over to North America, and he's making waves with the Philadelphia Flyers. Sure, he might not be Russia's top goalie pick right now, but hey, never say never.
This whole saga could change how KHL teams handle players leaping to the NHL in the future.
