The New York Rangers GM Chris Drury and the and must be ready because there's a massive trade rumor swirling around.
Star goaltender Igor Shesterkin is reportedly being targeted by the Los Angeles Kings, who are looking to solve their ongoing goaltending issues as they don't believe Darcey Kuemper, who they acquired from the Washington Capitals over the offseason and are paying him $5.25 million for the next 3 years, and David Rittich are not a long term solutions as a tandem.
The Kings and GM Rob Pelinka known for their aggressive moves, are rumored to be preparing a mega offer to acquire Shesterkin, even willing to put an 8-year deal on the table and give him the $12 million AAV he wants after he declined $11 million AAV from the Blueshirts last week.
Shesterkin is a 136-59-17 record and a .921 save percentage, and that doesn't include his historic playoff numbers, so it's no surprise other teams are showing interest.
While no trade is imminent, the Rangers will need to make a decision soon if they can't lock the former Vezina trophy winner and league's best goaltender to an extension.
As both sides weigh their options, the Kings' impressive pool of prospects could make for an enticing offer if the Rangers can't secure their star netminder. Stay tuned, because this can get interesting fast.
