It was announced today that Russian forward Alexander Pashin was being terminated by the Carolina Hurricanes after spending the year in Russia.

Whenever a team drafts a Russian player, there is always a lot of risk involved given the current state of the world. Just today, the Carolina Hurricanes terminated one of their Russian draft picks, Alexander Pashin, after he spent the year in the KHL.
The #Canes have placed 2020 seventh round draft pick Alexander Pashin on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination.

The 21-year-old played the entire 2023-24 season in the KHL.
Pashin is coming off his first full year in the KHL where he scored 19 points in 60 games in a bottom-six role. The skilled forward has upside but given how he was just terminated, it looks like the Hurricanes do not have faith that he will hit his potential.
