After the horrific incident, all fans of Russian junior hockey are now mourning the death of 18-year-old forward Roman Zyryanov. The player was found deceased after being struck by a bullet train in the Nizhny Novgorod region of his home country.
During his hockey career, Roman Zyranov played for the Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod U16 and U18 teams. In the 2020-2021 season, the young forward pulled in 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 total points in 34 games. His two games with the U18 team in the 2022-2023 season saw one goal and three assists.
Unfortunately, Roman Zyryanov will have no more chances to show us what he can do on the ice. The young forward's tragic end was sealed less than a month after 14-year-old Ivan Bazhenov, another hockey player from the region, met the same fate. With this appalling coincidence of young hockey layers losing their lives, hopefully, some authority will step in and make the changes needed to stop this from becoming a trend. We hope you can join us in wishing all the best for both players' friends and families through these difficult times.
