Rick Nash takes on new role as Director of Hockey Operations for Columbus Blue Jackets
From the moment the Blue Jackets selected Rick Nash first overall in the 2002 NHL Draft, he became the face of the franchise. Fast forward to March 2022, and they cemented his legacy by raising his iconic number 61 to the rafters at Nationwide Arena.
Now, Nash's role with the team has taken another step forward as he's been promoted to the Director of Hockey Operations.
After serving as Director of Player Personnel since 2021, Nash is moving into a position where he'll oversee player development across the organization under GM Don Waddell.
Rick Nash is an extremely bright guy who has become an important part of our hockey operations leadership group." «He is very passionate about the Columbus Blue Jackets and this community and has been a great resource for me since I arrived here in late May. Rick made a significant impact on this organization as a player and will continue to do so in his role as director of hockey operations.
As a player, he led by example, becoming the team's all-time leading scorer with 547 points for the Blue Jackets. he played 1,060 games under his belt and had 437 career goals with 547 points.
Now, in his new role, he's hoping to bring that same level of leadership and influence off the ice, shaping the next generation of Blue Jackets talent. Hr will dive into all facets of the team's hockey operations. He'll be hands-on in guiding player development and helping players at every level of the organization advance their careers.
It's an exciting new chapter for both Nash and the franchise!
