Edmonton Oilers legend Esa Tikkanen has found himself in the news due to some recent legal trouble that has allegedly forced him to part ways with his Stanley Cup rings.

The Edmonton Oilers were an absolute powerhouse in the 1980s with teams led by Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier and excellent support players like Esa Tikkanen. During his time in the NHL Esa Tikkanen won five Stanley Cups four of which came with the Oilers.
A new report today ahs confirmed that Esa Tikkanen has sold 4 of his 5 Stanley Cup rings. The only one he chose to keep was the first one that he won. This move from Esa Tikkanen comes during a tax fraud legal battle.
Tikkanen is auctioning off four of his five championship rings (keeping his first championship ring from 1985).

While there are reports and rumors that the reason for selling the rings is due to his legal troubles Esa Tikkanen has refuted this claim. He says that he had been planning to sell them long before this situation came along.
Is this settlement somehow related to your indictment for aggravated tax fraud? Have there been any financial challenges?

- In no way. This has been thought about for a little longer.
The next hearing in Esa Tikkanen's case was supposed to take place in April but was rescheduled. As of now there is no new date listed. Once a new date is confirmed and more information is provided we will pass it along to you.
