Ken Holland put together a solid roster in Edmonton, but after the team failed to win the Stanley Cup, the veteran GM is officially on the way out.
The Edmonton Oilers were just one game from the Stanley Cup in 2024, but after falling short, things could start to change, and that may already be happening. After reports emerged on Wednesday that the Oilers were making a change at the General Manager position, insider Darren Dreger has officially confirmed the report, revealing that Holland informed the team he won't be returning in 2024-25 with his contract running out.
After playing a key role in the Stanley Cup dynasty of the Detroit Red Wings, Holland couldn't quite find the same level of success in Edmonton, despite dealing with arguably the two best players in the league. As Dreger mentioned, there's no clear path forward for Holland to find a new role immediately as a GM in the NHL, but when he does decide on his next move, it's safe to say that there will be plenty of interest in his services.
