As the Panthers celebrated their victory nearby, the Oilers sat in silence, many too overwhelmed to even look at their teammates, with tears in their eyes.

Fans on social media shared their empathy, with many expressing how difficult it was to watch the clip.
The team's captain, Connor McDavid, was clearly disappointed but took the time to highlight the resilience and character the Oilers showed throughout the season. Despite the loss, McDavid expressed pride in how the team battled through challenges, especially when they were down and had to fight their way back.
"Just the resilience of the group. We went through a lot of ups and downs and came that close," Connor McDavid said to NHL.com. "I'm really proud, proud of the way we fought all year. We were behind the 8-ball almost immediately and fought an uphill climb for months and months and months and it [stinks]. It goes back to the character of the group that we showed all year long," McDavid said. "We showed all year long that we could fight back, even in the most dire situations. It's obviously tough to be down three and it's tough to win four in a row against a team like that, but we were right there."
Though the Panthers ultimately proved to be the stronger team, McDavid emphasized the pride he felt in his team's ability to push through adversity.
