Hoffman, a 34-year-old forward with loads of experience, is coming off a season with the league-worst San Jose Sharks where he posted 10 goals and 23 points over 66 games.
With 745 NHL games under his belt, plus another 33 in the playoffs, he has a proven track record. Hoffman's career totals are at 228 goals and 487 points, and he's still got a decent shot, even if his best days might be behind him.
The stalwart was originally picked 130th overall in the 2009 draft, and he's 11th in career points among players from that draft class, so there's some pedigree here.
It'll be interesting to see how he fits in at training camp and if he makes the roster. Should he click, Hoffman would join a Stanley Cup contender, with the opportunity to bring some valuable depth scoring to the Oilers.
