During Monday night's playoff game between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings, the atmosphere intensified as the Kings began to play more aggressively, culminating in a controversial incident involving forward Trevor Moore and Oilers defenseman Vincent Desharnais.

Late in the game, Moore targeted Desharnais from behind and executed a dangerous low hit that could have injured Desharnais. Although Desharnais was visibly hurt, he managed to continue playing and is expected to be in the lineup for Game 2 tonight.

No supplementary discipline for dirty hit on Desharnais

The hit sparked outrage among Oilers fans and calls for disciplinary action against Moore, particularly in light of a similar incident from a past season involving former Oiler Josh Archibald, who received a suspension for the same type of hit.
Despite the precedent and the apparent intent to injure displayed by Moore, the NHL decided against imposing any supplemental discipline, not even a fine. This decision has led to significant criticism of the NHL's Department of Player Safety, headed by George Parros, especially since such plays are considered more leniently during the playoffs. However, this specific incident, seen as a direct and intentional act rather than a regular physical play, has raised concerns about consistency and safety standards enforced by the league.
