Habs fans have eagerly been waiting to get an update on the injuries suffered by David Reinbacher and Patrik Laine during this weekend's preseason game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
While we still wait for further details on Patrik Laine's condition, the Canadiens finally made an update on the 2023 5th overall pick.
In a post on X, the revealed that Reinbacher will miss five to six months after getting a knee surgery:
Reinbacher will miss most of the 2024-25 season, which should greatly affect his development. Expected to become a top defenseman in the NHL, Reinbacher had just started his North American journey. He moved from Switzerland to Montreal to pursue his hockey career after a tough year with EHC Kloten, but will need to wait before completing his furst full pro season here.
It'll be a long road for Reinbacher to recover from that surgery. Even experts expressed concerns on social media:
Despite trading Jordan Harris and Johnathan Kovacevic during the summer, the Canadiens have a lot of depth at the blue line. Of course, Reinbacher's absence hurts, but in the AHL, the Rocket will still be able to rely on Logan Mailloux and Adam Engstrom, two players expected to reach the NHL level soon.
