For most people, the jerseys of old in the NHL are far superior to the modern day, and after seeing some old classics revived in recent years, the Washington Capitals had to follow suit. Now, they've made the announcement in a brilliant way; by giving a birthday gift to their superstar captain Alex Ovechkin.
During the video, Ovechkin pulls out an eagle jersey that was once synonymous with the Capitals, with the team officially bringing back one of the most popular looks in franchise history, and their captain was thrilled with the move. That's because this was the jersey worn during his rookie campaign all the way back in 2005, with the team using this day to go on a trip down memory lane.
The team brought back the design during the NHL's 'Reverse Retro' campaign, but did so with the team's regular colours, so now we will finally see this jersey return in all its glory, with the team announcing the schedule for the jersey to be worn in the upcoming season.
While some fans would certainly prefer the modern look and colours that Washington have gone for, it's hard to deny just how beautiful these ones are, and it will no doubt be a popular one for Capitals fans everywhere.
