Once the last player picked in the NHL draft, Maurice never made it to the league as a player and often wondered if he'd ever see his name on the Stanley Cup. Tonight, it happened.
After 1,985 games, 939 wins, four different franchises, a team relocation, three firings, Maurice finally reached the pinnacle of his career. At 57, he can now say his name will be engraved on the silver trophy. The Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Monday, winning the cup for the first time in franchise history.
His lifetime of hard work and perseverance has paid off, and soon, "Paul Maurice" will be etched into the silver and nickel band for the hockey world to see for decades to come.
