After the Dallas Stars bought out the remainder of his contract, veteran defenseman Ryan Suter joined an unexpected team: the St. Louis Blues.

Ryan Suter has played in the NHL for a long time. Following being picked 7th overall in the 2003 draft, he played for 19 years across three teams: the Nashville Predators, Minnesota Wild, and Dallas Stars, Dallas Stars, who recently bought out the rest of his contract.
"The Dallas Stars are buying out the remainder of Ryan Suter's contract.

With one year remaining on Suter's deal this move will add $1.4 million on the Stars cap for the next two seasons.

The Stars will save $1.4 million with the buyout."
It seems now that we can guarantee Suter his twentieth year in the league, as after the buyout, he signed with an unexpected team. He will play for one year with the St. Louis Blues for $775k. He can earn more in performance bonuses as he continues to cash in from Minnesota's and Dallas's buyouts.
"The Blues have signed free agent defenseman Ryan Suter to a one-year contract.

Suter will be paid by 3 of the 8 Central Division teams next season: St. Louis, Dallas (buyout) and Minnesota (buyout)"
Though a one-year commitment to a veteran player is not the biggest deal, Suter's age has become a concern for St. Louis fans. Some have pointed out that the Blues' top defensive players are already in their thirties. Meanwhile, Ryan Suter will turn 40 during the 2024-25 regular season.
"Blues' top-four defensive TOI leaders in 2023-24 by age, all still under contract:

31
33

32

Average: 32.25

They add 39-year-old Ryan Suter."
With an already aging team, the St. Louis Blues could have trouble defensively this next season. Hopefully, their choice to sign Ryan Suter will work in their favor. If not, they could miss another chance at the Stanley Cup playoffs.
