Alex Ovechkin has had a long, impressive career with the Washington Capitals. Yet, with this veteran player quickly approaching 40, it is clear his time with the NHL is running out.
Alex Ovechkin is one of the best goal-scorers in NHL history, now only 42 away from Wayne Gretzky's record. Now, with only two years left on his contract with the Washington Capitals, Ovechkin has made it clear he intends to retire from the league upon its expiration.
Despite this player leaving the league, Vladimir Fedosov, former assistant coach of the Dynamo Moskva, shared that Ovechkin intends to finish out his hockey career with the team in the KHL.
Given that Ovechkin will likely be 40 by the end of his last season in the NHL, it is hard to imagine his career in Russia will be long. However, according to Fedosov, this Capitals player is expected to be able to work with the team for a few years.
Alex Ovechkin will finish his tenure with the Washington Capitals at the end of the 2025-26 season. With Gretzky's goal-scoring record in sight, he will certainly be one of the biggest players to watch before heading to Moscow.
