French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati eliminated himself from the 2024 Paris Olympics after his private area got caught on the crossbar, crashing to the ground.

Anthony Ammirati's dream of capturing a medal at the Olympics sadly came to an end when his crotch smashed into the crossbar as he was attempting a jump, which led him to come crashing down on the mat. Ammirati was in a state of shock as he was seen grabbing on to the side of his head in disbelief. He did not make that 5.8 meter jump, which was needed to move on, so he was sadly disqualified.

«It's a big disappointment. I'm a bit gutted» he said.

The Paris Olympics was the first time Ammirati entered the competition. This was definitely not what he had imagined growing up as to how his first ever Games would play out.
"The conditions were good. It's the first time I've started a competition without any stress. As I was a total outsider, I only had one goal: to play with the audience. I was almost there."

Unfortunately for Ammirati, the video of what happened went viral , being shared and viewed by millions of people online.
Goodnight from the #Olympics
People began to comment online on the incident, with many making jokes about it, but others also feeling bad for him and trying to provide support.
"He lost it," one user wrote in response to the post. "but tbh he won it."

Another person commented, "You still made your country proud."

In order to advance to the final of the men's pole vault competition, athletes had to make the top 12, but with the condition that they at least vault over a bar that is minimum 5.8 meters high. Despite the fact that Ammirati was in a 4-way tie for 12th place, he was only able to top 5.6 meters, which meant he unfortunately was not allowed to move on to the next round.
Here's hoping Ammirati will be able to rebound from this and have a better showing should he take part in the next Olympics in 2028.
