Patrick Kane has been linked to his hometown team once again following a trade yesterday.
Kane's Ties To Buffalo
Patrick Kane is a name commonly associated with Buffalo despite him never playing for the Sabres. That is because Kane grew up in Buffalo and was a Sabres fan before being drafted by the Blackhawks.
16 years into his NHL career, Kane has spent most of it in Chicago but did make a move to the Rangers at the 2023 trade deadline.
Now currently unsigned, Kane is undoubtedly the number one free agent on the market and has made it clear he does not intend on signing a contract until he is fully recovered from the surgery he underwent earlier this summer.
Buffalo Could Sign Kane
After trading Ilya Lyubushkin to Anaheim yesterday, the Sabres freed up nearly $3 million in cap space.
Following this trade, the Sabres currently have over $8 million in cap space which would be more than enough to sign Kane.
With the Sabres looking like the leading candidates to land Kane, we could finally see him return to Buffalo nearly 2 decades after leaving.
