The Calgary Flames came into the 2023-24 season looking to bounce back with a big playoff run, but unfortunately things haven't panned out, and now, first year General Manager Craig Conroy appears to be on the verge of a rebuild.
According to a recent report from TSN's Darren Dreger, if the team does decide to go in that direction, Nazem Kadri, the veteran forward wants absolutely no part of a rebuild.
In TSN's latest Insider Trading segment, @DarrenDreger reports that Nazem Kadri wants to stay in Calgary but isn't interested in being part of a rebuild. Kadri signed a seven-year, US$49-million deal with #Flames in August 2022.
Will it be a complete rebuild or simply a re-tool in Calgary?
While some expect the Flames to tear it down completely, they have several prospects between 19-22 years of age, with the likes of Connor Zary and Martin Pospisil tearing it up in the NHL this season, so there's a chance that this team takes a 1-2 year re-tool and simply looks to add more youth to their lineup.
Either way, it appears Kadri wants out if the team aren't willing to compete, and with Noah Hanifin, Nikita Zadorov, Chris Tanev and Elias Lindholm all pending UFA's, the Flames are open for business at the deadline.
