Noah Hanifin will not be resigning with Calgary and now teams are checking on what it would cost to get the top defenseman.

Columbus Eyeing Hanifin

Noah Hanifin, a standout defenseman drafted 5th overall in 2015, has become a prominent presence on the ice, contributing offensively when required. As he approaches the final year of his current contract, Hanifin is eager for a fresh start elsewhere, and the Columbus Blue Jackets are emerging as a potential suitor.
According to NHLTradeRumors.com, Hanifin's reluctance to extend his contract with the Calgary Flames has led to Columbus' interest.
"Noah Hanifin has stated he has no interest in signing a contract extension with the Calgary Flames which has led to the rumors.

NHL trade rumors have the Columbus Blue Jackets offering up defenseman Andrew Peeke and forward Kirill Marchenko for Hanifin."

Could This Work Out?

Giving up Kirill Marchenko and Andrew Peeke for Hanifin would be a substantial move for the Blue Jackets. Marchenko discreetly showcased his prowess as a goal scorer last season, netting 21 goals and 25 points in 59 games. At only 23, Marchenko has the potential to ascend as a top-tier player, given his knack for finishing plays.
Andrew Peeke, though not yet posting impressive statistics, holds considerable promise. His performance should be viewed within the context of his team's dynamics. Given the right environment, Peeke could excel as a second-pairing defenseman, and Calgary's system seems conducive to his development.
Columbus has made a strong commitment to building an elite defense for the future. Their recent acquisitions of Damon Severson and Ivan Provorov this offseason, along with the drafting of David Jiricek and Denton Mateychuk in the 2022 draft's 6th and 12th picks, underscore their focus on nurturing promising prospects.
Placing Noah Hanifin just below Zach Werenski on the top pairing could solidify the Blue Jackets' defense for years to come. This move aligns with their strategic vision and could pave the way for a bright defensive future.
