A famous Calgary Flames broadcaster revealed some shocking information today, that forward Rasmus Andersson will be traded either this year or next year.

Last week on "Flames Talk", Pat Steinberg and Eric Francis talked about what might happen with Rasmus Andersson and his future with the Calgary Flames. Andersson is one of the last players left from the Johnny Gaudreau era, and since he's a younger veteran with just two years left on his contract, people are wondering what will happen with him.
Eric Francis believes strongly that the Flames will eventually trade Rasmus Andersson, whether it's at this trade deadline or the next one. He explained his reasons during the show.
So again, Andersson will be traded. The only question is, is it this trade deadline? I think it will be, because I think that the team will be clearly out of a playoff race at that point in time, and it will be time to cash in big time.

I'm not at all convinced that Rasmus Andersson would want to stay in Calgary long-term.
Fans might remember that Eric Francis also had strong opinions about Johnny Gaudreau's future with the Flames. He said Gaudreau wouldn't sign a long-term deal with the team, which many criticized at the time, but it turned out he was right. Lately, Francis has been making a lot of accurate predictions, earning him a reputation as one of the top insiders for the Calgary Flames.
So many other veterans last year, many of them fellow Swedes, decided they didn't want to be part of this rebuild. If things go sideways, the first couple months that frustration might get pretty old pretty quick. And it's easy to look at your buddies in all these other cities: Lindholm's in Boston, I'm pretty sure they're going to have a pretty good year. His buddy Hanifin is in Vegas. Pretty sure they're gonna have a good year.

Start to look around at where all these guys are. They were seeking greener pastures and for the most part they got it. They've all kind of landed in spots where the team has got a better short-term future ahead of them including this year.

So after a couple of months, I wouldn't be surprised if Rasmus went to management and said, you know, I'm not sure that I can do this any longer. I know you're going to trade me next year, why don't you trade me this year.

That's the way I kind of see it happening.

Eric Francis thinks that Rasmus Andersson's time in Calgary is coming to an end, and while not everyone may agree, his argument makes sense. Andersson is 27 years old and has two years left on his contract, which is paying him $4.75 million per year. This is a good deal, and many NHL teams would love to have a player like him. Last season, Andersson played almost 24 minutes per game, fitting well into the top defensive pair and potentially the top power-play unit. He's been very reliable both defensively and offensively.
There are even rumors that the Edmonton Oilers are interested in Rasmus Andersson, though it's unlikely the Flames would trade him to a rival team, let alone one in their division.
Like other key players with contracts that are ending soon, the Flames need to figure out what Rasmus Andersson wants for his future. If he doesn't want to stay with the team during a rebuild, it might make sense for the Flames to trade him sooner rather than later, while his value is still high.
