A longtime NHL goalie is reportedly signing with the Colorado Avalanche in search of his first Stanley Cup.
Avalanche to Sign Jaroslav Halak?
With an injury to current Avalanche backup, Pavel Francouz, there are reports that he might be out long term and he is recovering from an offseason hip injury.
NHL Insider Frank Servalli reported last week that Colorado was looking for a veteran backup option to play behind
Alexander Georgiev.
The Avs may have found their veteran option in 38-year-old Jaroslav Halak, according to Avs Insider Adrian Dater.
Czech-based insider Tomas Prokop confirmed the news.
Translated Tweet:
I already hinted at it. Jaroslav Halák is in the game to sign with Colorado, as Pavel Francouz is injured for a long time.
Expect an official announcement in the coming days from the Avalanche.
What Halak Will Bring to the Avalanche Team
Despite being well past his prime days, Halak will still bring many things to the Avalanche team.
His veteran experience having played in 581 NHL games in his career, will prove good for the Avs. While being a leader for the younger players in the room Halak will also be a steady backup for the team.
Last season with the New York Rangers Halak was able to put up steady numbers with the team posting a 10-9-5 record with a 2.72 goals against average and save percentage of 0.903.
While Halak is not a flashy option for the Avs it will certainly take the pressure off of Georgiev while Francouz is recovering from his hip injury.
