Nichushkin's six months suspension: Avs veteran Jack Johnson opens up
Valeri Nichushkin got suspended six months by the NHL and the Colorado Avalanche veteran Jack Johnson opened up about the situation in an interview.
Johnson, 37, is one of the most respected veteran in the Avs' locker room. His voice and his opinion matters a lot for the organization and he shared what he thinks of the whole controversy involving Valeri Nichushkin.
Nichushkin received a six-months suspension for breaching a condition of the Player Assistance Program related to drug use.
According to multiple reports from renowned insiders, such as Frank Seravalli, he failed a drug test during an intermission:
"#Avs forward Val Nichushkin has been suspended without pay for a minimum 6 months for violating terms of #NHL/#NHLPA Player Assistance Program.
Sources say Nichushkin recently failed a substance test. He missed playoff games last year after a 911 call in Seattle in which an intoxicated woman was found in his room."
Here's what Johnson had to say about the situation:
"#Avs Jack Johnson on Val Nichushkin:
«He made his decisions. That's all I'm going to say on that. He made his decisions.»
Nichushkin's nameplate has already been replaced in the Avs locker room."
Needless to say that he didn't look too happy with the whole thing, much like the rest of the organization, who didn't waste time to remove Nichushkin's nameplate in the locker room.
Nichushkin let his team down by making that decision. He was the top scorer for the Avs in the playoffs, tallying nine goals in eight games.
