This evening the Colorado Avalanche have made their first roster moves sending down four players ahead of the NHL preseason beginning.
The preseason for NHL teams can be a good time to evaluate a wide variety of players from young prospects to serious roster contenders. Today the Colorado Avalanche made the decision to cut four players from training camp before preseason games even begin.
The Avalanche announced on X this afternoon that they have sent down Neil Shea, Briley Wood, and Garrett Pyke to the Colorado Eagles. In addition Max Curran has been returned to his junior club in the WHL.
The exciting thing for Neil Shea, Briley Wood, and Garrett Pyke is that they will have opportunities to work their way up throughout the season. Playing in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles keeps the door open for the Avalanche to call these players up.
As for Max Curran, he will return to the WHL as one of the veteran players for his team. His focus now shifts from trying to make the Avalanche to trying to win a Memorial Cup.
As the NHL season continues to draw closer more moves will be made by every team in the NHL. Once these types of moves are made we will be sure to provide the latest updates on all the cuts and additions that are made.
