The Colorado Avalanche have decided to cut Pierre-Edouard Bellemare from the team, essentially ending his PTO. He will have to look for a new opportunity.

That bid by Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to land one more contract with the Colorado Avalanche is over. It was announced that the team released him from his PTO as he had been attending training camp in hopes of serving on the fourth line.
This may well end his NHL chapter, but it is unlikely to be the end of Bellemare's career. In August, he did say that if there wasn't going to be any interest in him from the NHL, he would likely head back to Europe and could rejoin Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League, where he played earlier in his career from 2009 to 2014.
The 29-year-old's NHL career, which began back with the Philadelphia Flyers, has collected 138 points through 64 goals and 74 assists in 700 games. He spent part of that time in an Avalanche sweater, including a 2019-20 season where he recorded 22 points in 69 games.
Undoubtedly a reliable fourth-line centre for the better part of his career, PE Bellemare's underwhelming last season made it no surprise he had to sign a PTO. He inked a one-year deal with the Seattle Kraken and managed a mere seven points in 40 games, finding himself scratched, a rare sight for him normally. His ice time, also a career low, stood at 9:50 per game, with his physical presence much less than in previous years, notching only 20 hits after having averaged well over a hit per game the majority of his career.
