Several years ago, the Columbus Blue Jackets swapped Pierre-Luc Dubois for Patrik Laine, with both the Blue Jackets and the Winnipeg Jets believing it would help their franchise's take a step forward. The Jets consequently moved Dubois this past summer, and now, according to a report from Pierre LeBrun, it appears as though Laine wants out of Columbus this summer.
Despite the addition of Johnny Gaudreau, Laine and the Blue Jackets struggled mightily once more in 2023-24, and with very little optimism moving forward, this move would make sense for both franchises. It's unclear exactly what the market for Laine would be, as he has played in just 73 games over the past two years, while tallying a solid 28 goals over that time.
With the Blue Jackets holding another top draft pick, the future continues to look bright, and if they can get another draft pick or a solid prospect, it would be a win-win for both parties.
