Austin Czarnik was placed on waivers this morning to join the Grand Rapids Griffins in a Calder Cup Playoff run. This roster move comes from the Red Wings as Czarnik is in the expiring year of his contract and will most likely clear waivers, and therefore join the Griffins.
Czarnik has been back and forth between the NHL and AHL his whole career unfortunately and has never seemed to find a place to settle in and produce. This season Czarnik played 34 games in the NHL where he posted one assist during that time. He also played 36 AHL games this season where his numbers were quite admirable, as in those 36 games he put up 26 points and 17 assists.
Czarnik has played for five different NHL teams over his career. His best statistical season came in the 2018-2019 season with the Calgary Flames where he buried 6 goals and posted 18 points over the span of 54 games. Czarnik played for the Boston Bruins, New York Islanders, Seattle Kraken, Calgary Flames, and most recently spent the last two seasons in the Detroit Red Wings franchise.
