After it came out earlier this week that Broberg, the 8th overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft, had requested a trade, Oilers GM Ken Holland has made the decision to send him to the AHL. Defenceman Ben Gleason has been called up as his replacement.
Broberg and his agent had initally said they had asked Holland for permission to seek a trade, and he had granted the request. Holland came out later and said he'd done no such thing, leading to Broberg's agent saying they were handling the matter privately.
Broberg played in 10 games with the Oilers this season, but failed to hit the scoresheet. He has played a total of 79 games in the NHL, scoring two goals and 11 points.
