McDavid Shows Impatience After Edmonton's Disastrous Start
During Monday night's game against the Vancouver Canucks, frustration reached a boiling point for Edmonton Oilers' captain, Connor McDavid, in the third period.
The Oilers were trailing 4-2, and McDavid found himself embroiled in two separate incidents.
While Zach Hyman and J.T. Miller engaged in a fight, McDavid clashed with Philip Di Giuseppe:
Later in the same period, McDavid gave a late crosscheck to Pius Sutter after Sutter took a shot on goal. This sparked yet another skirmish, leading to McDavid receiving a two-minute minor penalty for roughing against Suter. Leon Draisaitl also received a 10-minute misconduct penalty on the play.
Pressure Intensifies as Oilers Suffer Third Straight Loss to the Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver capitalized on their momentum, scoring two additional goals in the period, handing the Oilers their third consecutive loss and pushing their record down to 2-8-1. Only the winless San Jose Sharks, with a 0-10-1 record, have been worse.
Head coach Jay Woodcroft was even ejected from the game due to his unsportsmanlike behavior toward the referee.
When addressing the media after the game, McDavid recognized the positive aspects of their performance but couldn't hide his frustration with the final result:
"Obviously frustrating. I felt like we did a lot of good things in the first period and found ourselves down and chasing things."
Looking ahead, the Oilers try to bounce back when they face the Sharks on Thursday, who are still searching for their first win of the season.
