Edmonton Oilers Closing In On Important Franchise Record
The Edmonton Oilers won 4-1 against the Chicago Blackhawks last night in the first game between Connor McDavid and Connor Bedard. This victory was the team's eighth consecutive win. They're now close to breaking an important franchise record.
The Edmonton Oilers' Record-Breaking Winning Streak
This impressive run began on November 24 with a 5-0 victory against the Washington Capitals. In their 44-year history, the Oilers have only achieved a winning streak of seven games or more 11 times. They are now just a win shy of the franchise record, which stands at nine consecutive wins.
Interestingly, the Oilers' iconic nine-game streaks didn't occur during their 1980s dynasty. During that era, led by Wayne Gretzky, they managed three separate eight-game streaks in the 1983-84 season.
The first nine-game winning streak in Oilers' history was during the 2000-01 season, leading to a first-round exit at the hands of the Dallas Stars during the playoffs.
Last season, they matched this nine-game streak again, only to be defeated by the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round of the playoffs.
Now, with their current eight-game streak, the Oilers are looking to finally beat that record.
Up next, the Oilers face the Tampa Bay Lightning at Rogers Place, seeking revenge for their loss from a few weeks back.
