This NHL insider has just named who he believes the best defenseman has been for the Edmonton Oilers, and it's probably not who you think it is.
Insider Believes Ceci Has Been Playing His A Game
Recently, David Staples of the Edmonton Journal released who he thinks has been the best player in different categories for the Oilers to start the year. Offensively, Leon Draisatil takes the cake. But defensively, Staples believes Cody Ceci has been the best.
Ceci has been widely criticized for being overpaid and has been in a bit of a slump over the last few seasons. However, he has started to bring his A-game this year.
Ceci was quickly bumped up to the top pair this year after starting near the bottom and is now playing top minutes with Darnell Nurse. Ceci is an effective defensive defenseman, who doesn't have the flashy plays or smooth skating, but is best when you don't notice him at all.
Cody Ceci and Darnell Nurse have only allowed 1GA at 5v5 this season
That clearly makes them the best defensive pair in hockey
Don't like it? I don't care
Ceci will hopefully continue this success throughout the season, as the Oilers need a stay-at-home defenseman to lead the charge in improving the Oilers' play in their own end.
