Oilers Accidentally Leak Contract Talks With Two Players
The Edmonton Oilers have accidentally leaked two players they are in contract negotiations with.
On Oilers+, a paywalled bunch of videos the Oilers offer to fans who are willing to pay, there was footage of their management discussing which players to bring in.
While the footage they used was only for the players they brought in, they accidentally did not blur the background revealing a whiteboard with two names on it.
The two last names are Bastian and Comtois, referring to 2023 UFAs
Nathan Bastian and Max Comtois.
So now that the two names have been leaked, what has happened to them? Bastian signed a 2-year deal with the New Jersey Devils carrying an AAV of $1.35 million.
However, Comtois on the other hand has remained unsigned. With Edmonton's obvious interest, the question arises if there are other factors making the Oilers weary.
Comtois scored 9 goals and 19 points in 24 games with the Ducks last year and at only 24, he could still show a true breakout.
Right now, the Oilers have negative cap space so they must move somebody out but there is a solid chance that they still target Comtois on a PTO contract.
