Arguably the best duo in the league may be getting split up once Leon Draisaitl's current contract expires after next season.

Draisaitl Speaks On Contract Extension, Making Fans Worry

With the Maple Leads signing William Nylander to his 8 year extension it leaves Elias Pettersson in Vancouver and Leon Draisaitl as the big name contracts in Canada.
Draisaitl spoke to the media about his upcoming extension and it is leaving many fans worried about a new contract.
«At the end of the day, (McDavid) is going to do what's best for him and I'm going to do what's best for me.» - Leon Draisaitl, on his pending contract negotiations.
With Draisaitl being a top 3-5 player in the league he will be looking to get paid on his next contract. The Oilers may not be able to get the money he is looking for. With the cap expected to go up next season the Oilers could be looking at giving out another $12 million plus contract to their other superstar player.
With the comments of Draisaitl when July 1st his it seems he is either signing an 8-year extension to stay in Edmonton or his his days are numbered with the organization.

Draisaitl's Reign Of Domination With McDavid

We have seen teams like the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks struggle to make Stanley Cup rosters with 2 players making $10 million or more so how would the Oilers be any different?
The main difference that these duos provide that the aforementioned Leafs and Hawks don't is one Connor McDavid. McDavid is the most skilled player the NHL has ever seen and has been a dominant player in the league since he joined.
Draisaitl being paired with him has often gotten overlooked for his production and play on the ice, but when you watch the Oilers play often it is Draisaitl and McDavid feeding off of each others energies to help boost the play of the Oilers.
With the unanimous best player in the league and Draisaitl who is not a slouch, if any team is going to be able to win the Stanley Cup with 2 or more $10+ million contracts it will be the Edmonton Oilers.
