After practice today, head Coach Kris Knoblauch updated the media on the state of the team and revealed some troubling details.
Oilers Coach Reveals Players On the Brink Of Breaking Down From Injury
The Oilers are coming off a pretty decent-sized break, having 5 days between their last game and their upcoming one on Wednesday. The Oilers, on a 4 game-win streak, are seemingly turning their season around after a horrible start to the year.
After practice yesterday, though, head coach Kris Knoblauch addressed the media regarding the long break between games and revealed that some of his players were on the brink of breaking down from injury.
The break has been both good and bad. I think the bad part about it is it can kill the momentum it's good for us because we had a lot of guys on the brink of breaking down physically.
Obviously, this is pretty common for the NHL, and why they build in mini-breaks for players to recover, as the game can be a beating throughout the 82-game season.
Knoblauch Likely Referring to Kane and Nurse
Knoblauch is likely talking about Darnell Nurse and Evander Kane in his comments here, as both players missed practice yesterday. While they are not likely to miss time, its obvious from their absence and from Knoblauch's comments that they are playing through something that is aggravating. Both players returned to practice today.
Darnell Nurse and Evander Kane are on the ice for @EdmontonOilers practice today
We will see if the Oilers can continue their hot streak after their break.
