The Edmonton Oilers are keeping one of their most expensive players on a short leash.

Oilers Losing Patience With Campbell

The Edmonton Oilers are a team that cannot afford to waste money. With eight players making over $5 million, they expect each of those players to help the team. For the most part, seven of them help the Oilers in the right direction.
The one who has seemingly held the Oilers back is goaltender Jack Campbell who has struggled since signing a 5-year $5 million deal.
Oilers reporter Allan Mitchell of The Athletic has said the following regarding Campbell's status with the team.
"If Campbell struggles again, it's possible the Oilers move him out in favour of a more consistent option." - Allan Mitchell

Any More Consistent Options?

There are a few goaltenders who could be traded. A couple of names that have been thrown around lately are Connor Hellebuyck, Logan Thompson, and John Gibson.

While all of these players would be a definite upgrade over Campbell, they would also cost a lot to move for. With the Oilers also being so cap-strapped, they would need to move Campbell out as a part of any potential trade which would cost pieces to do.

Moving a player like Campbell would be especially difficult but if there is a proper home for him, then the Oilers will certainly find it and try to acquire a more consistent goaltender in return.
