Where Stuart Skinner Ranks Among Young Goalies Revealed
Stuart Skinner is a serious piece of the Oilers Stanley Cup puzzle, and it was recently revealed just how good he might be for the Club.
Skinner's Crease in Edmonton
As a rookie, Skinner quickly earned his way into the starting spot for the Oilers about midway through last season and kept the starting spot throughout the Oilers' playoff run. Although Edmonton is an offensively oriented team, Skinner was an instrumental part of their success.
Skinner ended up starting 48 games and played in 50 in 2022-23. He went 29-14-5, recording a 2.75 goals-against average (GAA) and a .913 save percentage (SV%).
Where Does He Rank for Young Goalies?
There are quite a few goalies under 25, however, Skinner is steps ahead of many, as he has earned his spot as a starter/tandem goaltender in the league. The numbers suggest that Skinner ranks third among NHL goalies under the age of 25.
Skinner is only behind Oettinger and Swayman in terms of best goalies under 25. Both goalies are cemented as either their respective team's number 1 or are part of tandem. Oettinger is a lock for the number 1 goalie under 25, and Swayman's stats are similar to Skinner's and he has more games played.
Either way, Edmonton should feel relieved that they have a solid foundation in net for years to come.
