After some great work this off-season without a General Manager, it appears as though the Oilers are expected to make a very controversial hire.

Edmonton Oilers CEO Jeff Jackson has been working as the General Manager thus far in the off-season, and while he made some great moves, it's clear that he's not interested in the role full time. Now, they've been linked to plenty of fantastic candidates, but according to all reports, they may be looking to go with the most controversial option.
Stan Bowman & @EdmontonOilers CEO Jeff Jackson have chatted about the open GM position the #Oilers have, with the great work Stan Bowman has done with the @RespectGroup & all the other good work he's done a road back to the @NHL is differently coming very soon. Could it be with the #LetsGoOilers ? We shall see but it's trending that way from our understanding.
According to all reports, the front runner for the role is currently former Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman, who resigned after the controversial Kyle Beach incident that forever tainted the legacy of the Chicago Blackhawks. Understandably, fans are frustrated with the potential of Edmonton going in that direction;
i'm like 90% sure that the Oilers are hiring Bowman.

there has just been too much talk from a lot of legitimate sources for me to not think that it's inevitable.

this team will soon realize that they are making a tremendous mistake.
Listen - if Bowman is actually putting in the effort to learn and grow from his mistake, then good for him. I wish him the best on his journey.

That still doesn't mean he should be GM of the Oilers though.
Sure, the team under Bowman won three Stanley Cups, but incidents like that are much bigger than hockey, and with Bowman failing to protect his players, he just simply shouldn't be taking over a new NHL team. Only time will tell whether or not the team go through with the hiring, but if they do, expect plenty of backlash.
