The Edmonton Oilers face immense pressure heading into the 2024/25 regular season, and now, they've further trimmed down their roster with some big moves.

This off-season has been a largely successful one for the Edmonton Oilers, and with several solid additions, there's plenty of optimism around their roster as the regular season rapidly approaches. Now, the team have made some more roster moves as they look to trim it down ahead of the season, starting with Cam Dineen (D)
Connor Carrick (D) both being placed on waivers for the purpose of assignment.
Next up is Seth Griffen (F), who has been released from his PTO, but will report to Bakersfield to see where his career heads next with the Condors. Ultimately though, the two most intriguing names on today's transaction log are up next, with Matthew Savoie (F) officially being loaned to Bakersfield.
The 20-year old was solid in six AHL games with the Rochester Americans a year ago, and now, the Oilers will send him down to watch his development, with any injuries at the NHL level potentially signalling his arrival at any point during the 2024/25 season.
The final name on the list is Sam O'Reilly (F), who recently emerged as a dark horse to make this roster right out of training camp, but now the announcement has been made that he'll head back to the London Knights ahead of the 2024/25 season.
O'Reilly was the Oilers first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft on the back of 20 goals and 56 points with the London Knights in the OHL, and while he didn't make the roster, the 18-year old could be a star for this team for a long time to come as he continues his development.
Now, Edmonton's roster sits at 17 forwards, 12 defensemen, and four goaltenders, and with less than 10 days until the regular season opener, the lineup is starting to take shape as they look to go one step further in 2024/25.
