Reports are coming in as the hockey offseason comes to an end that former Edmonton Oilers goalie Mikko Koskinen has decided to retire from hockey.

Throughout the Edmonton Oilers' recent years of contending they have struggled to find a consistent goaltender. One of the best in recent memory was Mikko Koskinen at his peak. Today at 36 years old Mikko Koskinen is retiring after spending 2 seasons in Switzerland playing with HC Lugano.
Mikko Koskinen had an interesting hockey career path. He was originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 2009 NHL Draft and considered a top prospect. He would eventually debut with the New York Islanders but only play 4 games before heading back to Europe.
After leaving the NHL Mikko Koskinen would have a successful career in the KHL and Liiga. His dominance in 2017-18 would lead to a contract offer from the Edmonton Oilers. Mikko Koskinen would then spend the next four seasons as the starter for the Oilers. His best season would come in 2019-20 with a 2.75 goals against average and 0.917 save percentage.

Now after retiring Mikko Koskinen will head back to Finland where he will begin his next career as a player agent. As Mikko Koskinen transitions into this next phase of his career we wish him all the best.
