The Edmonton Oilers are looking to replace the production lost at the bottom of their lineup this summer from players like Ryan McLeod and Dylan Holloway. Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers have been working to replace the production lost for many weeks now. One of the players who was fighting for a spot in the bottom six was veteran Mike Hoffman who was on a Player Tryout contract (PTO).
Today the Edmonton Oilers confirmed through an announcement on X that they would be releasing Mike Hoffman from his tryout.
At 34 years old Mike Hoffman is nearing the end of his hockey career. After spending last season with the San Jose Sharks and putting up just 23 points the NHL portion of his career seems to be coming to a close.
At his peak, Mike Hoffman was a near or above 30-goal scorer with the Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers. With the Senators he was a key piece to the core group that made a run deep into the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After being sent to the Florida Panthers he had a two-year peak as a top goal scorer in the NHL. Since then he has struggled to recapture that goal-scoring magic in other stops around the NHL.
With the NHL season just a few days away Mike Hoffman has limited time to find a new home. If he doesn't find an NHL contract it will be interesting to see the approach Mike Hoffman takes to the future of his hockey career.
