The 2024 NHL Draft could turn out to be one of the best in recent NHL memory, and for the Edmonton Oilers, they may have found a diamond in the rough late in the draft. With the No. 183 overall pick, Edmonton nabbed
Albin Sundin of the Swedish Hockey League, with the 20-year old defenseman showing plenty of promise overseas.
What makes Sundin even more interesting is the fact that he attended Maple Leafs development camp a year ago, showing that the team had plenty of interest in him, and with pick No. 190 in hand, it's highly likely that they would have used that pick on him. Instead, it was Edmonton to land him, and now, the 6-foot-1 defenseman has been ranked their 18th best prospect, showing that he may have genuine potential in the NHL one day.
His size was used highly effectively with Frolunda a year ago in the SHL, especially when it counted in the playoffs, and now there is a belief that he could be one of the best picks in the draft. Toronto could have taken him earlier in the draft, but it's a testament to the Oilers patience and scouting department that they were able to land him at No. 183, and after many saw him as an 'under the radar' name in Leafs camp last season, expect him to continue rising up the board in Edmonton.
