In recent weeks, it's become evident that the Edmonton Oilers have found a standout interim general manager in Jeff Jackson. Despite his impressive performance, Jackson has no desire to take on the role full-time.

After the departure of Ken Holland, Jackson, the president and CEO of the Oilers, stepped in as interim GM post-Stanley Cup finals. His swift and strategic moves have been nothing short of brilliant.

Fans calling for Oilers to keep Jeff Jackson as GM

During his brief tenure, Jackson managed the NHL draft, securing a first-round pick to select right winger Sam O'Reilly. On the first day of free agency, he landed big names like Victor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner, while retaining key players Mattias Janmark, Troy Stecher, Corey Perry, and Connor Brown. He also made bold decisions, such as buying out Jack Campbell and trading Ryan McLeod and Ty Tullio to the Sabres for Matt Savoie.
Jackson's prior experience includes roles as a player's agent and assistant GM for the Toronto Maple Leafs during the John Ferguson Jr. era, staying on as assistant GM under Cliff Fletcher before leaving when Brian Burke was hired.
Fans are thrilled with Jackson's impactful decisions, expressing their support and urging him to stay on. However, Jackson may opt to promote from within, possibly selecting Keith Gretzky or Brad Holland as the new GM, while he continues to oversee operations. Despite the team being slightly over the cap, adjustments will be made before the season opener, ensuring the Oilers remain competitive.
