The Edmonton Oilers have had essentially two seasons in one. Before Woodcroft was fired, and after. One move that happened before Woodcroft's firing was Jack Campbell being sent to the AHL. So far that hasn't changed, but recent games indicate that the veteran netminder could be back in the NHL soon.

Ken Holland Discusses Decision To Send Campbell To AHL

Oilers general manager Ken Holland recently discussed the move in sending Campbell to the AHL. In his statement about the netminder, he admitted that he may have mishandled the situation. It seems as though he regrets having him play in the AHL right away. Notably, Campbell was awful in his first series of games with the Condors.
"In hindsight, I think I made a mistake that when I sent him down. Probably should not have had him play right off the bat."
However, the veteran netminder has been turning things around recently. As such, he could potentially be an option for the Oilers as a callup, should the team feel that he is more capable of that role than Calvin Pickard.

Campbell Regaining Form In Recent AHL Starts

The 32-year-old is up to 17 games now with the Bakersfield Condors. He has improved his record to 10-7-0, lowered his goals-against-average to 2.90, and increased his save percentage to .909. Over his last seven games, he has been particularly effective, putting up a .935 save percentage over that span.

This could mean that Campbell is on the verge of making his NHL comeback. That being said, Pickard has been surprisingly good for the Oilers this season. He's only played in eight games, perhaps indicating that the coaching staff is not very confident in him, but he has a very respectable 5-2-0 record along with a 2.34 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Campbell will likely have to outperform those numbers consistently in the AHL before he gets called up.
