Edmonton Oilers' Leon Draisaitl will star in a new Amazon documentary following some of the NHL's best players.
Draisaitl and many other players are set to appear on a behind-the-scene documentary, produced by Amazon.
According to David Alter from The Fourth Period, William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks, and David Pastrnak will be featured in that documentary:
"Though some logistical items with the NHL are still being finalized, Amazon has already commissioned a documentary-style behind-the-scenes show featuring a dozen «main cast» NHLers, believed to include William Nylander, Leon Draisaitl, Quinn Hughes and David Pastrnak. There will be additional NHL player appearances throughout the series beyond the primary individuals, however, with Jeremy Swayman entering the Pastaverse in some form."
A few months ago, Amazon acquired broadcasting rights for Monday Night Hockey from Rogers for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. It looks like the plan if for complimenting game broadcasts with more content, such as scenes from the documentary.
Amazon should announce their plans for Monday Night Hockey as soon as tomorrow.
They had already tipped their toes in the hockey world with the Leafs documentary from a few years ago, and most recently, with the Saving Sakic documentary about how the Avalanche managed to keep Sakic from joining the Rangers on a massive hostile offer.
"This is pretty big news in the Canadian TV market, as Amazon looks set to take over Monday Night Hockey from Sportsnet. With the All or Nothing series, Amazon has experience with the #NHL, so I'm excited to see what they can do with Monday Night Hockey!"
