The Edmonton Oilers forward group is arguably the most stacked in the NHL, but with too many veterans, could the team waive Corey Perry in favour of a younger name?

Corey Perry played a solid role for the Edmonton Oilers last season, but at 39-years of age, his role on the team for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign is less defined. Sure, he brings much more experience than those around him, but at his age, he can't play all 82 games, so the Oilers have some major questions to answer ahead of the new season.
Now, new speculation has revealed that the team may be looking to waive him early in the season with the likes of Noah Philp and Raphael Lavoie showing that they are ready for a spot on the fourth-line, or perhaps even better.
Unsurprisingly, the reaction to this suggestion was very split, and while most don't see Perry as a full-time NHLer anymore, as a veteran in the 13th forward position, there are few players that you would find better suited to the role.
The most likely reason for this speculation is Lavoie, who has been improving constantly over the last few years, and with the team desperately needing an infusion of youth, adding Vasily Podkolzin and Lavoie into the bottom-six may be just what they need.
Ultimately, waiving Perry may be a consideration for Edmonton, but with his vast experience, it just makes more sense to instead target someone like Derek Ryan as a waivers option, but for now, this is an interesting story to keep an eye on with several young players emerging in camp and genuinely pushing for spots in the bottom six.
