GM Bill Guerin Holds Meeting with Wild Team Members
Bill Guerin, General Manager of the Minnesota Wild, visibly upset with the team's poor performance since the season's start, despite previous successes, called for a meeting with the players and coaching staff. This session occurred before the team's participation in the NHL's Global Series in Sweden, as reported by The Athletic.
"Was it a scream-fest? Bit of both. The one thing about Billy, when he talks, everyone respects the s out of him. That guy talks, you're gonna really, really listen." - Marcus Foligno
"It was kind of a kick in the ass, figure our s out kind of meeting. Something we definitely needed." - Ryan Hartman.
Guerin's frustration is evident, and he's been open with the media about his concerns.
"I'm not happy. I'm not happy with where we are."
"My biggest thing is our compete level. And look, guys work hard every night and they care. I know that. But it's a different type of compete and focus. I just don't think we've had it."
"It's everything from faceoffs and 50-50 puck battles to just pure execution, being in position, being in the right places to tape-to-tape passes. It all needs to be better."
Despite Guerin's meeting, the Wild didn't see immediate improvement, losing both games in Sweden. While there's no immediate concern for coach Bill Evason's position, the poor results could lead to significant changes within the team.
