It appears that Canadiens forward Kirby Dach has just suffered an injury scare during a scrimmage at training camp.

The biggest key that may define the Montreal Canadiens' overall success this season under Martin St-Louis is having Kirby Dach in the lineup for a full 82 games. No doubt talented, big-bodied, and physical, he projects to be a player with great potential to make a big difference at both ends of the ice when healthy.
But in one terrifying moment of the first intra-squad game of training camp, Dach gave a wave of concern that rippled from the fans all the way up to coaches. Battling for a loose puck, he took a stick right on the face, and everyone in attendance held their collective breath. Any time a player goes down injured, it's cause for concern, but with Dach, that ever-present fear of a concussion is one that's more unnerving than most given his history with injuries. Thankfully, after a tense pause, early indications were that he avoided serious injury, and he could shake off the scare without any big repercussions.
Kirby Dach stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 217 pounds, possessing a singular blend of size, skill, and playmaking ability. At just 23 years young, he's already had a rollercoaster of a career. The young forward was drafted third overall in 2019 by the Chicago Blackhawks, coming to the Canadiens with the hope that his full potential might be reached in Montreal's rebuilding system. But despite the promise, so far injuries have interrupted his ability to make a consistent impact. Last season, for instance, Dach was off to a promising start but unluckily was sidelined after notching two points in just under two games. There were flashes during the 2022-23 season as to what Dach could bring to the Canadiens, recording 38 points in 58 games.
His playmaking ability, coupled with his physical presence, makes him an essential piece of the puzzle for Montreal's offense. If he can keep off the injury list, Dach has the potential to be a cornerstone piece in the roster for years to come, as he is someone who can score and defend while bringing a significant physical element to his hockey club's overall game. Health this season could mean personal success for Dach but also a big competitive boost for the Canadiens in the upcoming season.
