The New York Islanders have had some solid veterans for a number of years, but now GM Lou Lamoriello plans to move on from two huge ones.

After over a decade of featuring both Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin in the lineup, it appears their time in New York is coming to an end. That comes from General Manager Lou Lamoriello himself, who, in a recent interview with the New York Post revealed that their time with the Islanders is done.
«We'll probably be moving on,» Lamoriello told The Post. «That isn't saying things can't change. We're talking about two veterans, two quality individuals. Two team leaders and two real good hockey players, so we'll have to see how things come about. But we haven't changed our thought process today any different than the last time we spoke.»
It's not clear what brought this on, but with the Islanders continuing to play an out of date style, especially with two forwards that haven't notched over 20 points in a season in the past six years, it's a move that would certainly make sense. With Mat Barzal, Bo Horvat and Anthony Duclair all leading the way now, this is a team that has the skill to keep up with some top teams in the Eastern Conference, and if they can find another standout offensive minded player, they will be able to mitigate the loss of two veterans in Martin and Clutterbuck.
