Matt Rempe of the New York Rangers has caused quite a stir among fans in his short time in the NHL, and he's hitting rock star status faster than many others

22-year-old Matt Rempe has played just 17 regular season games in the NHL so far, and another 11 in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the buzz around him makes it look like he's been around forever. Fans are rabid for Matt Rempe, and his popularity seems to grow with every public appearance.
Matt Rempe was recently met with a crowd hungry for his autograph, which isn't uncommon for NHL players. However, his fans were getting him to add autographs to their neck and foreheads.
Matt Rempe will never be considered an elite player, but his willingness to get into the dirty areas and to never back down have quickly made superfans out of some. As the WHL put it, very few fighters/enforcers have earned a cult-like following so quickly as Matt Rempe has, and it will only burn brighter as time goes by.
Matt Rempe recently took in a training session with legendary NHL enforcer Georges Laraque in an attempt to hone his fighting skills for the 2024-25 season. Laraque said "he will be the NHL Heavyweight Champ, no doubt."
As is the norm in social media times, with love usually there is a quick flurry of haters and detractors. Some feel Rempe is biting off far more than he can chew and will end up getting himself badly hurt some day. There are others who feel he's a dirty player coasting on popularity. Matt Rempe seems to care little either way. He does seem very focused on being the best player he can be in whatever capacity the coach needs, whether it be a fighter, grinder, and sometimes even a goal scorer. Matt Rempe appears to be completely unfazed by the criticism while he soaks in the admiration of his many fans.
